There are many types of truck-mounted cranes, and their classification methods vary. The main classifications are:

By lifting capacity: Light-duty truck cranes (lifting capacity below 5 tons), medium-duty truck cranes (lifting capacity between 5-15 tons), heavy-duty truck cranes (lifting capacity between 5-50 tons), and super-heavy-duty truck cranes (lifting capacity above 50 tons). Due to usage requirements, the lifting capacity is trending upwards; for example, large truck cranes with lifting capacities of 50-1200 tons have already been manufactured.

By outrigger type: Frog-type outriggers, X-type outriggers, and H-type outriggers. Frog-type outriggers have a smaller span and are only suitable for smaller tonnage cranes; X-type outriggers are prone to slippage and are rarely used; H-type outriggers can achieve a larger span and offer significant advantages in terms of overall machine stability, so most hydraulic truck cranes produced in China use H-type outriggers.

By transmission system type: Mechanical transmission, electric transmission, and hydraulic transmission.

By the horizontal rotation range of the lifting device (i.e., the rotation range of the turntable): Full-rotation truck cranes (turntable can rotate 360°) and non-full-rotation truck cranes (turntable rotation angle less than 270°).

By boom structure type: Folding boom, telescopic boom, and lattice boom truck cranes.
