The Development of Bulldozers

The production of bulldozers in my country began only after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Initially, bulldozer attachments were added to agricultural tractors. With the development of the national economy, the demand for medium and large crawler bulldozers from large-scale mining, water conservancy, power plants, and transportation sectors increased continuously. Although my country's medium and large crawler bulldozer manufacturing industry has developed significantly, it still cannot meet the needs of national economic development.

Therefore, since 1979, my country has successively introduced crawler bulldozer production technology, process specifications, technical standards, and material systems from Komatsu of Japan and Caterpillar of the United States. Through digestion, absorption, and breakthroughs in key technologies, a pattern dominated by Komatsu technology products from the 1980s and 1990s has been formed.

From the 1960s to the present, the number of domestic bulldozer manufacturers has remained stable at around four. This is because the processing requirements for bulldozer products are high and complex, and mass production requires significant investment; therefore, general enterprises do not easily venture into this field.

However, with market development, starting from the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" period (1991-1995), some large and medium-sized domestic enterprises, based on their own capabilities, began to diversify into bulldozer production, expanding the ranks of the bulldozer industry.

At the same time, in addition to producing bulldozers, they also began to engage in the production of other construction machinery products. For example, Shantui also produces road rollers, graders, excavators, loaders, and forklifts.
