A vehicle-mounted crane is a type of crane mounted on a standard or specially designed vehicle chassis. Its driving cab and crane operating cab are separate.
The advantages of this type of crane are its good mobility and rapid transfer capabilities. Its disadvantages include the need for outriggers during operation, the inability to move while under load, and unsuitability for use on soft or muddy ground.
The chassis performance of a vehicle-mounted crane is equivalent to that of a truck with the same gross vehicle weight, meeting the technical requirements for road vehicles, and therefore can travel freely on all types of roads.
This type of crane generally has two operating cabs, one for driving and one for crane operation, and requires the extension of outriggers for stability during operation. The lifting capacity ranges from 8 tons to 1600 tons, and the number of axles on the chassis can range from 2 to 10. It is the most widely produced and used type of crane.
